How long have you been on this weight loss journey? I’ve battled with my weight my whole life, but my LiveFIT journey started 3 years ago.
Weight Loss/Inches: I’ve lost 35 lbs since I started LiveFIT. I’m not sure how many inches, but I’ve dropped 6 pants sizes.
What was your “low point”? My lowest point was 6 years ago. I was actually in a happy place in my life–I had just met Shannon. We kind of had a whirlwind romance and I had stopped working out (I was a member of ATC) and we ate out all the time. I gained 15-20lbs during our short courtship and when we got married, I was the same weight I was when I gave my birth to my son.
How did you get started? I started at LiveFIT when my daughter, Dylan, started dating Adina’s son, Hayes. I talked to Adina a few times to coordinate plans between the kids and she seemed so great that I thought it was time to find out more about LiveFIT. Wendy Quinn had been telling me about it also, along with several friends who had been going to LiveFIT. I started just before Christmas in 2015, doing mostly bootcamp classes.
What is your workout routine and eating plan? I was never someone who enjoyed “classes”. I always worked out on my own at the gym. I never knew how big of a difference the class setting, and support you receive, could make in my routine! I started doing bootcamp at LiveFIT a few times per week. My weight loss started slowly until I did my first team challenge (Rock Your Jeans 2016). I didn’t eat salads or vegetables… Basically I didn’t eat anything healthy before that. My idea of eating healthy was baked chips and diet coke. I was completely addicted to diet coke and Sonic happy hour was a staple in my daily routine. Wendy helped me change my eating habits. Through the constant support of the LiveFIT coaches and community I have changed my lifestyle. I still enjoy my splurges (pizza is my weakness!), but I balance that with healthy meals. Meal prepping is a must for me. I keep healthy lunch/dinner options in the fridge so I’m less likely to opt for fast food or something equally as unhealthy. It has taken me 3 years to get to my goal weight (which was my weight before I got pregnant with my 15 year daughter). It took consistency and not giving up when I got off track. Making small changes will eventually become habits which will lead to major body/life transformations.
What are your top 3 favorite resources that helped you along the way?
1.) All of the coaches! Wendy Quinn, especially, was a game changer for me. She is SO encouraging and was patient with me as I told her all the things I refused to eat. She introduced new recipes to me and got me eating salads and vegetables.
2.) My Fitness Pal- helps me really see what I’m putting in my mouth each day. It makes me think before I take a small bite of something I shouldn’t when I know I have to journal it.
3.) My Zone belt. This helped me elevate my workouts. When I wanted to slack off, I pushed through it because I could see the information in real time on the screen.
What one piece of advice would you give to someone who is sitting on the sidelines and waiting? Stop waiting! You can’t change the way you feel until you start doing something different. There are so many options at LiveFIT to help you get started.
What one piece of advice would you give to someone who is in the process but is feeling discouraged? Don’t give up! We all hit valleys in our weight loss journey. You only fail if you stop trying!
Anything else you would like to share? Starting a workout routine can be intimidating. When I started at LiveFIT I only knew a handful of people and they didn’t work out at the same time as I did. It took courage for me to go to each class alone and not feel like a fish out of water. Eventually I found friends who were taking the same classes as me and they have grown into people who keep me accountable in my fitness journey. I feel like a whole new community has opened up for me. I see LiveFIT people everywhere I go in Arlington and I feel connected to them all. Don’t let fear stop you from being the best YOU you can be!
