{Your Story}

As the one year anniversary of my accident approaches I am getting emotional thinking about that day. 2016 was off to a great start. I did the the LiveFit challenge that spring, celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary in June and then there was July. It was just an average day at home. I was about to take my boys and my neighbors son to Art Camp. My neighbor Valerie had driven her son down to my house and her and I starting talking about painting my front door. She is an artist and I wanted to make sure I got a good paint. And that’s it. That’s all I remember. Here is what I was told. My neighbor started to get in her car and she said that I staggered a little and said something about being dizzy. All of a sudden I tensed up and went head first backwards into my driveway my head bouncing off several times. I had a 3 minute long seizure. I barely remember being in the hospital. I was at Baptist East for 11 days with most of them in ICU with a skull fracture from the fall.

What was your “low point”?. Now this part is hard to talk about for me. I’m a pretty private person. It was so hard on me. I was at home recovering from the fall. I wasn’t allowed to do much. I couldn’t drive my kids to school. I couldn’t go to the grocery store. No post office. No more volunteering at the school. I was at countless doctors appts that I had to get someone to drive me to. Kids practices. Nothing. I swore I wouldn’t drive at all those 6 months because I didn’t want to hurt anyone in case something happened. I was very alone. Isolated. Couldn’t do anything for myself. I sat on my couch most days and I gained weight. I didn’t even feel like myself anymore.

How did you get started? When I could finally drive again I said I was taking control of my life. I was back at LiveFit the first week of January. I was overweight, weak, embarrassed of myself and I was in a full boot on my left leg. But I was determined. I went to class and then another. I made modifications for my boot and I just kept going.

What is your workout routine and eating plan? I started off doing 3 days a week at LiveFit. It was so hard. I reached out to a sweet friend Wendy Quinn for help too. I started working out one day a week with my her. She taught me what to eat, when to eat and most importantly she cheered me on. Currently I do 3-4 classes a week, train one day a week and eat clean.

What are your top 3 favorite resources that helped you along the way?

1.) My family has always been my support system. They have been very open to eating better and everyone eats SO much better.

2.) LiveFit and Adina. Adina stopped by one day to see how I was doing. She brought me lunch and just spent some time chatting. She truly cares about her clients.

3.) My sweet friend Wendy is truly one of a kind. Without her I am not sure I would have made it as far as I have. She is a great trainer, motivator, and teacher. I am sure she will never know the impact she has made on my life.

What one piece of advice would you give to someone who is sitting on the sidelines and waiting? I would tell that person “get up!” Time on this earth is not promised to you. If you want something then go get it. No excuses. Live life each day like it’s your last.

What one piece of advice would you give to someone who is in the process but is feeling discouraged? Find your tribe. I know I have. Find people and make goals together. I’ve found my tribe and that’s what we do. We group text, we encourage each other in class, and we push each other.
